Mr. Norman Saranaweera is a born blind teacher. He graduated from Peradeniya University in 1982 with a degree in English and in 1983 he was appointed as a Government English Teacher at Walasmulla North Kanumuldeniya Maha Vidyalaya in Hambantota District. He wrote a large number of books in Braille and the originals of each book were edited with his own hands in Braille. In general, students in all schools in Sri Lanka have achieved a very minimum level of proficiency in English Language . It is confirmed by examining the results of students who have passed the English language in the last 30 years. When I asked the reason for this once, he said that the students’ knowledge of grammar in English is weak, and grammar lessons in class textbooks are very rare. Therefore, I would like to mention that he once told me that he wanted to initiate the creation of a basic English grammar book. That is why the grammar book Easy way of learning English grammar and composition was created. He said to the scholars he often met as well as to me when the book was computerized that it would be a very effective program if the process of teaching English using that book is done in Sri Lankan schools. Therefore, I would like to remind you once again that it will be the responsibility of all of us to put the book in the hands of the students and this book is designed in such a way that it can be used by those who want to get the basic knowledge of the English language, as well as a mature person, so this book can be used regardless of age. Even many academics have confirmed that it can be done through letters of praise.
The content of the book is structured in 28 chapters in 455 pages and two review reports of the book were published in the Sunday Island newspaper on 22 January 2017 and in the Daily Mirror newspaper on 01 February 2017. A special discussion about this book has been held through the National Television Service’s Sunhida program and the Buddhist channel’s native radio programs. Also, I would like to remind you that it has been approved for libraries by the Ministry Of Education Publishing Board.
